West Northants Development Corporation

Although this does not directly affect Yardley Gobion, in that we are not immediately in the development area, we are very close to both Northampton and Towcester. The Government plans to greatly expand the west Northants area over the next 25 years including building thousands of new houses and this will affect us all. The West Northants Development Corporation is in charge of this development and will be given special powers to implement these government plans

Some people would say it is good for the area but others worry about the impact of such massive growth. One thing is for sure you should be aware of it.

This is taken from their Brochure

"Housing Requirement RSS8 indicates 47,400 new homes can be delivered by 2021 in West Northamptonshire, (of which some 9,600 should already be provided by 2006).

30,000 are to be built in and around Northampton Borough and in neighbouring parts of Daventry and South Northamptonshire (Northampton Implementation Area), with a further 10,800 in Daventry District and 6,600 in South Northamptonshire.

47,400 should house a population increase of around 125,000 people. RSS8 also indicates, by 2021, some 37,200 additional jobs will be required to provide employment for local people and to reduce the need for additional commuting.

For the period 2021-2031, the policy requires that a further 17,500 dwellings should be an uncommitted planning assumption."
