Yardley Gobion History group

The Yardley Gobion History group is a large group from the village and some members from nearby villages who have regular meetings in the village hall at Yardley Gobion on the 1st Thursday of the month with speakers, visits or walks.

All are welcome, £1 members, £2 non members, a years membership is £5. They have a comprehensive website showing history of the village and its people which can be found at

Jan 6th       The Courtier and the Queen          Malcolm Deacon

MP for Northamptonshire Sir Christopher Hatton, rumoured lover of Elizabeth 1.He constructed Holdenby Hall and funded Francis Drake’s expeditions. The Golden Hind is on His Coat of arms.

Feb 3th       Magical Mechanical Music          Kevin McElhone

Kevin has written a book about Mechanical Music, musical boxes,
nickelodeons and many more. He will bring along examples. 

March 3rd   Upstairs, Downstairs - domestic service     Ian Waller

The lives of domestic servants and their appearance in records 

April 7th      Local History Evening     tba 

May 5th       Walk to Tattenhoe and Howe Park Wood  

June 2nd  The History of Mapping in Britain    Robert Westlake

Robert will show the development of mapping including The Ordnance Survey 

July 7th     Visit to the Cowper and Newton Museum  and Tour of Olney Market Square
